At Lindbergh-Schweitzer and Crawford High, students, alumni, and staff recently celebrated the topping-out for their state-of-the-art classroom and student services facilities. One mile northwest of Lindbergh-Schweitzer, John Muir Language Academy saw the start of construction on a new classroom and student services building.

“These projects will highlight our talented students and staff at both campuses in Clairemont, while also beautifying the neighborhoods,” said Board of Education Trustee Sabrina Bazzo, who represents District A.

“Crawford High has been around for decades and has seen talented athletes and students of all backgrounds come through,” Board of Education Vice President Dr. Sharon Whitehurst-Payne said. “Our capital bond program is allowing us to bring onboard this new, state-of-the-art facility that will complement Crawford’s hard-working students for years to come.”

On Mt. Albertine Avenue in Clairemont, Lindbergh-Schweitzer’s project includes a new two-story classroom/student services building and a grass playfield.

As part of the Whole Site Modernization and Joint-Use Field project, the new classroom and student services facility will include 15 classrooms, a new student services area with a reception lobby, offices, and instructional support spaces. The new joint-use field is part of the Play All Day Parks program with the City of San Diego and will include a walking/running path, and security perimeter fencing. As part of the Play All Day partnership with the City of San Diego, the joint-use field will be accessible to the community as a local park after school hours and during school breaks. Additional site improvements include a new on-campus parking lot with student drop-off and pick-up lanes.

“We are all so excited to have our students back on campus and this new classroom building that’s underway is adding to that excitement,” Lindbergh-Schweitzer Principal Victoria Peterson said. “The new field will also encourage students to exercise and engage in more physical education activities.”

At John Muir, a K-8 magnet school focused on Spanish language immersion, the Whole Site Modernization project will bring a wave of transformations for students. The project includes the construction of a two-story classroom building with 18 classrooms, collaboration spaces, and physical education changing rooms; a one-story kindergarten classroom building addition; a new lunch shelter; a one-story student services facility, and an expanded kitchen facility behind the existing multi-purpose building. Existing classrooms will be modernized with new windows and blinds, LED lights, paint, and flooring.

Renovations will also be made in the multi-purpose building, exterior playground areas, and restrooms.

“These new facilities will provide our students with learning spaces that will help bring their academics to new heights,” John Muir Principal, Stan Anjan said.

For Crawford, the new classroom and performing arts facility follow campus-wide renovations to existing classrooms, support spaces, and essential building systems, such as fire alarms and emergency communication systems. The renowned College and Career Technical Education Transportation program, which provides students the opportunity to learn key skills that can help them excel in mechanics, engineering, and aviation, has been expanded and fully renovated. Crawford Alumni, Sharon & Lee

Celebrating Crawford’s rich sports history, the Colts’ athletic program facilities were also renovated, including the stadium, track, tennis courts, and baseball and softball fields.

“Since the late 1950s, Crawford has been the center of the community and we are re-establishing and rebuilding it so that it will bring more pride to our community and to our students,” Crawford Principal Dr. Froylán Villanueva said.

The project at Crawford is the newest phase of school improvements in the Colina del Sol neighborhood. Just last year, the community saw the completion of a new, state-of-the-art classroom and student services facility at Mann Middle School.

All three campus modernizations are scheduled to complete in 2023. To read more about these projects, and other bond projects, visit http://fpcprojects.sandi.net.
