Clairemont Canyons Academy’s New School Site Getting Ready to Open August 2022

Lindbergh Schweitzer Student Watches Hoisting of Final Steel Beam

SAN DIEGO – Construction crews are putting the final touches on new classroom and student services facilities for Clairemont Canyons Academy on Mt. Albertine Avenue. The new school facility is set to welcome students, family and staff for the coming school year starting on August 29, 2022.

“We are excited about this brand-new building because the community and our students deserve it,” said Victoria Peterson, Principal of Clairemont Canyons Academy.

The exterior of the school building is fresh and inviting with bright colors of blue, white, yellow and green in a modern design. The state-of-the-art classrooms are well-designed with modern details wherever you look. “The school will highlight our talented students and staff at Clairemont Canyons Academy, while also beautifying the neighborhood,” said Board of Education Trustee Sabrina Bazzo.

The new campus of Clairemont Canyons Academy, formerly known as Lindbergh Schweitzer Elementary, includes a new two-story classroom/student services building and a grass playfield. As part of the Whole Site Modernization and Joint-Use Field project, the new campus includes 15 classrooms, a new student services area with a reception lobby, offices, instructional support spaces and a new on-campus parking lot with student drop-off and pick-up lanes.

The new space will also include a joint-use field with a grass field and a walking/running path. The field is part of the Play All Day Parks Program, a partnership with the City of San Diego. The partnership will allow the joint-use field to be accessible to the community as a local park after school hours and during school breaks, significantly enhancing the neighborhood’s recreational space. Principal Victoria Peterson said, “The new field will also encourage students to exercise and engage in more physical education activities.”

When the new school site opens on August 29, 2022, the existing campus, which is directly adjacent to the new one, will undergo its own transformation with major renovations on that site to modernize the rest of the campus. The plan is to then join the two updated campuses as one so the school site will ultimately be entirely renovated and rebuilt.

The modernization is part of a three-school renovation project including Clairemont Canyons Academy, John Muir Language Academy and Crawford High School. All three campus modernizations are scheduled to be completed in 2023, and are funded by San Diego Unified School District’s Prop S and Z as well as Measure YY, which are all local bond measures approved by San Diego voters to repair, renovate and revitalize neighborhood schools.
